Summer Book Recommendations for Your Summer Reading Slump

By Paris Sanchez

Have you been in a reading slump for the longest too? It’s okay, we’ve all been there (me right now). What helps me get out of a reading slump in the summer is reading summer books. They always manage to get me excited about the season. The settings of these books make me feel as if I’m also waking up in the morning and breathing in the salty ocean breeze, walking down the hill with grass beneath the soles of my feet, jumping into the cold water, and getting ready to catch a good wave to surf (Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid).

If you also love a book that will make you feel like you just got out of the ocean, with the sun glistening on your skin and sand glued to the soles of your feet, a book set near the beach will be perfect to get you out of your summer slump or simply to get you back into reading! Here is a list of books that will make you feel like you feel like you’re breathing in that salty air:

Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid (one of my favorite books)

Happy Place by Emily Henry

The Summer of Broken Rules by K.L Walther

Every Summer After by Carley Fortune

•Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune

This Summer Will Be Different by Carley Fortune

The Infinity Between Us by N.S. Perkins

If you want to read more books on friendship this summer, revolving around the beauty of platonic love and how these friendships last a lifetime, here is a list of books that will make you appreciate those platonic relationships in your life:

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty

The Little Shop of Happy Ever After by Jenny Colgan

My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante

The Story of a New Name by Elena Ferrante

Those Who Leave and Those Who Stay by Elena Ferrante

Sula by Tori Morrison

Dogs of Summer by Andrea Abreu

When We Lost Our Heads by Heather O’Neil

The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George

The House at the Edge of Night by Catherine Banner

The Summer Book by Tove Jansson

Want a book that will make you feel like you’re walking the streets of Europe on a late summer night? Here are some book recommendations that will give you vivid imagery of a European summer:

Bonjour Tristesse by Françoise Sagan

SunBurn by Chloe Michelle Howarth

The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim

Call Me By Your Name by André Aciman

The Good Left Undone by Adriana Trigiani

Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes

The Beautiful Summer by Cesare Pavese

Hopefully, these book recommendations will help you get out of your summer reading slump. I know I need to read some of these to help me get out of mine. And maybe reading this gave you the motivation to go to the beach with your friends and spend some time reading on the shore.
